Background and Context
Conference Theme
"Securing the Future of Nigeria's Family Planning Agenda for Sustainable Health and Development"
Since the inaugural Nigeria Family Planning Conference in 2010, Nigeria's family planning (FP) agenda has evolved through three distinct phases. The first phase focused on advocacy and agenda setting. The second phase concentrated on financial accountability and commitment tracking. While Nigeria achieved significant progress through the FP2020 commitments, significant challenges persist: low contraceptive prevalence, high fertility levels, and unacceptably high maternal mortality.
The 9th Nigeria Family Planning Conference heralds a third and decisive phase: systemic sustainability and self-reliance. In an era characterised by global aid contractions and changing donor priorities, the conference seeks to reposition family planning from donor dependency to domestic ownership, sustainability, and resilience.
The conference aims to stimulate action toward building strong institutions, sustainable financing mechanisms, local manufacturing capacity, and robust community systems capable of securing Nigeria’s family planning future.

- Assess Impact: Evaluate effects of global funding reduction on FP service delivery using disaggregated evidence.
- Mobilise Commitments: Secure concrete federal and state budgetary and legislative commitments for family planning.
- Advance Local Production: Strengthen regulatory pathways and technology transfer for local FP commodity manufacturing.
- Deploy Innovative Financing: Explore and activate innovative financing mechanisms for sustainable FP funding.
- Build System Tracking: Establish a transparent post-conference accountability framework to track commitments.

Who Should Submit?
The 9th Nigeria Family Planning Conference welcomes submissions of abstracts in the form of original research, programme evaluations, implementation science studies, policy case studies, and innovative practices and interventions. We also welcome submissions from international researchers and practitioners with relevant experience in low- and middle-income country contexts.

All submissions should explicitly address one or more of the following cross-cutting mandates:
Disability Inclusion
Demonstrate accessibility standards and inclusion of persons with disabilities, presenting disaggregated data where applicable.
Youth & Adolescents
Address the needs of both married and unmarried adolescents as priority populations with dedicated implementation pathways.
Gender Equity
Demonstrate how interventions promote women's autonomy, decision-making, and economic empowerment.
Traditional & Religious Leaders
Illustrate structured engagement of faith and traditional leaders in accountability and community mobilisation.
Local Champions & CBOS
Demonstrate formal engagement of community structures as accredited implementation partners.
Policy Translation
Present clear and time-bound policy and programme recommendations.
Focus Areas
Conference Sub-themes
Abstracts must be submitted under one of the following six sub-themes. Authors should select the sub-theme most relevant to their work and ensure their abstracts explicitly address the applicable cross-cutting mandates.
Areas of interest include: Domestic financing and budgeting for family planning; Accountability and expenditure tracking systems; Innovative financing mechanisms; Legislative frameworks and policy commitments; and FP2030 financing commitments and performance.
Areas of interest include: Public-private partnership models for FP commodity procurement, service delivery, and financing; multi-stakeholder coordination platforms and their effectiveness; the role of local champions and CBOs in sustaining alignment; accountability mechanisms for partnership performance; and lessons from total market approach implementation in Nigeria.
Areas of interest include: Local manufacturing capacity, regulatory frameworks and technology transfer; supply chain data systems and last-mile delivery innovations; the role of NAFDAC and related agencies in enabling local production; procurement strategies leveraging local industry; and models for integrating private sector logistics into public sector supply chains.
Areas of interest include: Integrated FP and maternal health service delivery models; quality improvement initiatives; demand generation for hard-to-reach populations; community health workers and task-shifting; rights-based FP service provision; and reducing unmet need among underserved populations.Emphasis on measurable improvements in access, quality, and equity of services.
Areas of interest include: Family planning in humanitarian settings; integration of FP into emergency health responses; climate-resilient supply and service delivery systems; FP needs and service gaps in conflict-affected settings in Nigeria; and adaptive service delivery models.
Areas of interest include: Digital tools for demand generation, provider decision support, and supply chain management; Artificial Intelligence applications in predicting service delivery gaps and optimising resource allocation; health information systems interoperability; data governance and real-time monitoring of FP2030 targets.

Abstract Submission Guidelines
Authors are required to adhere strictly to the following guidelines. Only abstracts that meet the specified formatting or structural requirements will be considered for review.

250 words maximum (excluding title, author names, and keywords).
Required Abstract Structure
Title — Background — Aim/Objectives/Purpose — Methods/Implementation Approach/Description — Outcomes/Results — Recommendations/Conclusions/Lessons Learned. Not all headings may be applicable to every submission.
Font
Times New Roman, 12-point size.
Keywords
Three (3) to five (5) keywords required.
Language
English only.
Sub-Theme
Indicate one primary sub-theme from the six listed conference sub-themes.
Presentation Format
Accepted abstracts will be presented as oral presentations or posters. Authors must indicate their preferred presentation format at the time of submission. While every effort will be made to accommodate stated preferences, the final allocation of formats is at the sole discretion of the Abstract Committee.
Submission Method
All abstracts must be submitted through the conference online portal. The portal link will be available on the conference website.
Please note: Acceptance of an abstract only provides an automatic registration fee waiver but does not constitute automatic provision of travel and accommodation support. Authors should enquire about available support mechanisms through the conference secretariat.
All accepted abstracts will be published in the Official Conference Proceedings. All presenters are required to complete conference registration by 30 October 2026. Publication opportunities for selected high-quality abstracts will be explored following the post-conference. Authors of shortlisted abstracts may be invited to develop full-length manuscripts for consideration, subject to editorial and peer-review requirements.

Become a Volunteer Reviewer
The NFPC 2026 Scientific Committee invites qualified professionals to serve as volunteer abstract reviewers. All abstracts will undergo a rigorous, blinded peer-review process.
Reviewers play a critical role in upholding the scientific quality and programme relevance of NFPC 2026. We are looking for individuals with expertise in family planning, reproductive health, public health, health systems, health financing, research methods, or related disciplines.
Review Criteria Applied
- Scientific quality and originality
- Relevance to the conference theme and the selected sub-theme
- Engagement with the cross-cutting mandates
- Strength of methodology and quality of evidence presented
- Clarity of findings, conclusions, and policy implications
- Potential contribution to Nigeria's FP2030 commitments and national programming
About the Review Process
Process
All submitted abstracts undergo a rigorous, blinded peer-review process. Reviewers will not see author or institutional identity.
Volume
Reviewers will typically be assigned 5–10 abstracts within the review window.
Timeline
The review window will open following the submission deadline of 30 September 2026. Notifications of acceptance will be sent by 13 October 2026.
Recognition
Volunteer reviewers will receive recognition in the Official Conference Proceedings and a certificate of contribution.
